As a group of Scouters of diverse faiths, the committee's activities will be governed by Lord Baden-Powell's tenets of reverence to God, one's neighbor and one's self. Programs will promote the concepts of spiritual values, while at the same time teach religious tolerance. Events will be prioritized in recognition that spiritual values are key components of Scouting. "On my honor, I'll do my best to do my duty to God and my Country" highlights our Scout Oath. Here are some details on events to help you with this. They are intended to add to, but never replace your weekly worship duties. Scout Sabbath 2008 - Area Scouts of the Jewish faith invite all Scouts to attend and participate in the Annual Scout Shabbat. The service will be held on the morning of January 26th, 10:30 AM, at Temple Israel at 1 Riverbend Drive (just North of the Korean Memorial). Tigers, Cubs, Webelos, Boy Scouts and Venturers of all faiths are welcome to attend this special event. Girl Scouts of all ages from Buckeye Trails Council are also welcome to attend. Each scout attending will receive a free Scout Shabbat patch. For more information, please call either Scott Segalewitz at 885-6868 or James Cooper at 836-7241. Annual 2008 Council Recognition Dinner, including adult Religious Awards, to be held on Jan 26th : Location: Celebration Center on Stop Eight Road. Festivities start at 5:15 PM. Call the Council Office to reserve your places. Summer Camp Chaplain 2008: We are now accepting applications from senior Scouters for this challenging position. You may have already seen the notice in our “SCOUTER” newspaper. Challenging work, modest pay, very few dull moments, and perhaps one of your greatest summers await the person awarded this position at Woodland Trails for 2006. Contact Jim Cooper at 836-7241 or Marilyn Miller at 278-4825, ext. 243, to get started. 2008 CAR-A-VAN for Religious Understanding: On May 4th of 2008, we will once again be traveling between several houses of worship, learning of faith practices which may differ from our own. Recall our Scout Manual, “A Scout is reverent toward God, faithful in his religious duties, and he respects the beliefs of others”. This year we will visit in the Tipp City area, starting at the Canal Lock Park and visit four houses of worship. Click here for details and map. Hope to see you there! Funding Campaign 2008: Is underway. We are contacting all houses of worship which support our Scouting programs. Funds are used primarily to support the activities of our Summer Camp Chaplains. All donations gratefully accepted. Please address your checks to The Interfaith Committee, MVC-BSA, and mail to Rev. Bob Thornton, Treasurer, United Christian Church, 8611 Hoke Rd., Clayton, OH 45315 ADULT AWARDS Form: Soon coming here, a link to a fill-in form, which will be forwarded to us by E-Mail. Council Office forms still available, but this should make it even more convenient to nominate that deserving Scouter. Stay tuned for details as we get this worked out. University Of Scouting - April 26th.
We'll be there. This year, we plan (per many requests) to offer two
Multi-session training courses: Religious Emblem Counselor Training,
and Chaplain / Chaplain Aide Training. Note that these will require
more than one time period. Details soon. |
