SunWatch District has a new District Executive Director. Rick McQueen Joined Miami Valley Council has the SunWatch DE on May 1st, 2006. Rick comes to us from the Hoosier Trails Council in Bloomington Indiana where he served as a Senior District Executive. Rick has 16 years experience as a professional Scouter. We look forward to working with Rick for a promising and bright future. "Hoosier Daddy!",
Our long time District Executive, Joe Isherwood, has resigned to follow new carreer paths. Joe was our DE for nearly 6 years from early 2000 to April 2006 and a DE in another district of our council for 2 years. We will miss Joe and we appreciate all the great achievements he helped SunWatch district accomplish during his time with us.
Kasey Green was the Scoutreach division for a year and a half. Kasey helped re-establish some units which had fallen by the wayside. He also created a recruitment program called Scoutreach All-stars with a baseball theme. Kasey left to return to college in Virginia to pursue a Master's degree. Our new Scoutreach director is Steve Pittman who has been a volunteer in our district for 2 years. Please welcome Steve when you see him around at the district roundtables and events.
Our own Miami 495 OA Lodge is in the process of conducting unit elections. The first Ordeal weekend is scheduled along with Beaver Day weekend at Woodland Trails on May 5-7, 2006. This will be a great opportunity for newly elected candidates to join the lodge early and become able to attend the next Section C-4B Conclave on June 2-4, 2006 at Camp Berry in Findlay, Ohio. The conclave will be hosted by Mawat Woakus Lodge 449 from Black Swamp Council. A note for Troop leadership, an elected OA candidate does not need to be "tapped out" to attend the ordeal. The call-out is intended for public recognition and can take place after the candidate has become a member. So please don't withhold the knowledge of their nomination from them just because you want it to be a "surprise".
For past members of the OA, who may not be current with their dues ($15 per year), you are highly encouraged to get current and attend the conclave - it promises to be a great event! Check the OA website for more information at http://www.miami495.org.
The 2006 Summer Camp season is rapidly approaching. Woodland Trails (WTSR) will have 5 sessions this year and an exciting program too! If you haven't made plans for Summer Camp yet, contact the Scout office at 278-4825 to get a Leader Information packet. We hope to see you at WTSR this summer!
